About the Product Stewardship Centre of Excellence

The Product Stewardship Centre of Excellence is an independent, not for profit charity, that seeks to avoid and reduce waste generation from products and create positive environmental and social outcomes through sustainable product design, resource conservation, product reuse, and recycling.

The Centre helps brands, manufacturers, retailers, industry associations, product stewardship organisations (existing and emerging) and governments across Australia design sustainable products, prolong the life and value of products and materials, and maximise the use of renewable, restorative, regenerative and recycled materials.

Initially supported with seed funding from the federal government, the Centre is now solely funded by its partners, event sponsorships, online resource and training sales, and advisory fees.

The Centre was established in late 2020 by a consortium comprising the UTS Institute for Sustainable Futures, the Australian Industry Group and Dentsu Creative with initial financial support provided by an Australian government grant. We would like to thank our foundation partners and the Australian government for their contribution to establishing the Centre.

Our Mission

To reduce the environmental and social impacts of products by activating circularity and producer responsibility across the entire product lifecycle.

We do this through education, training, advice, analysis, research, recognition, collaboration and advocacy.

Our Vision

To see the wide scale adoption of product and material stewardship principles into business models that prevent and reduce waste generation and create positive environmental and social outcomes through good design, improved resource productivity/conservation, and sustainable reuse.
